//A bit of background about Stephen Bates

Who is Stephen Bates?
I have spent the last 15 years in clinical practice helping people improve their health and well-being. I am passionate about what I do and want to share my knowledge with anyone who is keen to learn.
After training and several years of practice as a physiotherapist, my experience helping people with all manner of physical problems led me to see how it can be the psychology behind illness that is the root cause of their problems. And so treating the mind often gives people a more immediate and sustainable result, or at the very least helps augment their physical treatment.
Study of NLP and other psychological concepts further reinforced that view, and subsequent practice and experience with all manner of clients, has shown me the positive power of reprogramming the mind. Today I work directly with individuals, groups and businesses, as a trainer and therapist guiding them to help themselves tackle the things that are holding them back in their life, whether emotional or physical.
Making things easy
In my years of clinical experience, I have had the good fortune to have helped many thousands of people. And it is that drive to help others that has led to an obsession to learn all I can, and work on distilling that knowledge in simple, digestible forms that people can absorb and act on.
I now help people make quick improvements to their lives, leaving them happier, healthier, and more successful and fulfilled. My philosophy is to give people the tools to help themselves, not tie them to lengthy dependence on me as a coach, trainer or therapist.
I have a reputation for having an uncanny knack for making the most difficult of concepts both simple to understand in both the training room and clinic and easy to use outside it. So my training programmes in particular are straightforward and easy to understand, and are based on real life experience with clients.
I am also the owner of Certain Change, a business established in response to an increasing demand from clients to bring the techniques that helped them personally, into the wider business world; and to help train others in the fields of NLP. Certain Change continues to thrive, providing a range of NLP training and coaching for both personal and corporate clients.
Properly qualified
I place great value on being accessible and putting across what I do in a clear, logical way. But that must always be guided by the latest and best thinking, so I am equally passionate about constantly learning and improving the basis on which I help others. The following qualifications are not an end in themselves, but do help to underline the solid foundations from which I operate.
I'm a fully certified trainer of NLP, Hypnosis and Time Line Therapy®. I'm also a full member of the American Board of NLP (ABNLP), American Board of Hypnosis (ABH) and Time Line Therapy® Association (TLTA). My company Certain Change is a recognised provider of Hypnosis (by ABH) and Time Line Therapy® training (by TLTA). In addition to all of that I am a Health Professional Council registered Physiotherapist, member of the Institute For Complementary and Natural Medicine and trained in several other complementary medicines, some of which I have taught, including Amatsu.
Wider recognition
In 2007, I went international with an invitation to train NLP in both Hong Kong and Canada.
I have written numerous articles for industry and 'glossy' magazines as well as a series of e-books and self help programmes based on the thousands of one to one client hours over the years, some of which you will find on this site.
